South Dakota, an American heroine, Little House on the Prairie, and Book Marketing
I've been planning a trip to South Dakota for ten people in my family since January, and it finally came to fruition this month. It was everything I hoped it would be. I packed my Nikon camera (after dusting the bag off) and put it to good use. The boys enjoyed taking pictures with it.
It was an epic trip. We walked through historic Deadwood, explored parks and sights around Rapid City, went to a rodeo, saw Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial, looked at wildlife up close and through binoculars, took the 1880 Train between Keystone and Hill City, gawked at real dinosaur skeletons, stopped at Wall Drug Store off I-90, gazed for miles at Badlands National Park (pictured above), learned about nuclear missiles hidden underground at Minuteman Missile, walked through a never-ending antique car collection, witnessed western shootout reenactments, took a family selfie in front of Corn Palace, and got a really good feel for prairie life in the 1800s at the Ingalls Homestead in De Smet. If you're interested, I'm happy to share our itinerary. Reply and let me know.

A Patriotic Project
During America’s 250th year of independence, I’m proud to promote a middle-grade book about a real-life patriot and heroine named Sarah Bradlee Fulton, who suddenly found herself on a spy mission for General George Washington! I helped author Ellen Chervenick format the book.
Are you a Little House on the Prairie fan? I am. My family recently finished the original show on Prime. Every episode has a moral. It's so good. And now there's a new show on Netflix! I've not watched yet, but I will.
Meanwhile, I'm working my way through Laura's books. We've read some aloud with the boys and listened to others in the car.
To cap off our time in South Dakota this summer, we went to De Smet to see where the Ingalls family ultimately settled.
"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace."

Marketing as Service and Stewardship
Will Parker Anderson recently wrote a good post about promoting your work. Based on 1 Peter 4:10, he challenges us to think of marketing as service and stewardship.
Will writes, "Instead of thinking of promotion as self-promotion, think of it as service. Creative work can and should bring us personal joy. But its deepest satisfaction comes when something we’ve made blesses other people."
And, "In the delicate dance between promotion and pride, we become the kind of people who faithfully steward the gifts and desires the Lord has given to us. We become people who bring life and light to others through our work."
Speaking of marketing, are you confident you're using keywords that readers are searching for on Google and Amazon to market your book online? If not, I can help.
Using Publisher Rocket, I'll find the best keywords and categories for your book, plug them into KDP for you, and send you a copy of the reports. Reply to this email by August 15th to book and pay only $50 per book ($70 thereafter).

Hey, friend! Now that spring is dawning, I wanted to pop in and say hello. It's been a long winter for many of us. How are you? What are you working on now? I've been busy volunteering with my kids' extracurriculars, presently Trail Life and chess club. Running club and baseball are about to kick off. I recently finished a photo book, which felt good. I'll share more about that below. What I love most about helping people with their passion projects are the friendships that follow. I enjoy...

Happy Fall, y'all (the South is rubbing off on me)! In this newsletter, I - reflect on Charlie Kirk's legacy, - share what we're doing weekly with our boys,- congratulate client Veronica Stone on her publishing deal,- recommend a podcast for writers, and- answer the question, "What is the best book you read this summer?" But first, I have to share these rainbow photos I took this year, because every time I see a rainbow, it reminds me that God is present. He's in control of all this chaos....
