Charlie Kirk's Legacy, Trail Life, Celebrating a Client's Publishing Deal, a Podcast for Writers, and Jubilee

Happy Fall, y'all (the South is rubbing off on me)!

In this newsletter, I
- reflect on Charlie Kirk's legacy,
- share what we're doing weekly with our boys,
- congratulate client Veronica Stone on her publishing deal,
- recommend a podcast for writers, and
- answer the question, "What is the best book you read this summer?"

But first, I have to share these rainbow photos I took this year, because every time I see a rainbow, it reminds me that God is present. He's in control of all this chaos. His story continues to unfold, and we are a part of it. He created us to be in a relationship with him. He is our Father and he's preparing a place for us in heaven. Jesus said,

In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14:2-3)

Building a Legacy: Remembering Charlie Kirk

Last week, I felt led to share some of what has come to my attention recently, since the death of Charlie Kirk. His memorial service on Sunday was amazing and moving. God is revealing truth to the world in a big way right now, and the daily Scripture reading for September 10th, the day Charlie was shot, is proof of that.

What We're Doing Weekly with Our Boys

If you have or know boys between the ages of 5 and 17, Trail Life USA is a Christ-centered scouting program that I highly recommend. We joined a troop this year, and our boys are loving it! Their first overnight campout is next weekend.

Trail Life activities and program advancement takes place within seven categories: Heritage (family, American, Christian), Life Skills (e.g. home repairs, interpersonal skills), Science and Technology (science concerning God's creation), Hobbies (how interests can bring God glory), Values (teachings of the Christian faith), Sports and Fitness (stewarding our bodies well), and Outdoor Skills (how to safely experience God through outdoor adventures).

What Joy! by Missionary Veronica Stone

Congrats to client Veronica Stone for her recent publishing deal with Woman's Missionary Union! In this post, I recount how Veronica and I worked together to edit her initial manuscript.

Step into a missionary’s shoes as she goes abroad for the first time, is called to ministry overseas, and clumsily adapts to a different culture. You’ll laugh out loud at her most embarrassing moments, learn how she’s weathered storms, and walk with her into new seasons of life.

What I'm Listening To

If you aspire to write a book and/or pursue traditional publishing, I recommend Will Parker Anderson's Writers Circle podcast. Will is a senior book editor at WaterBrook & Multnomah, a Christian imprint of Penguin Random House.

He also writes a good newsletter. His course, Proposals Made Simple, promises to teach you how to create a book proposal publishers can't ignore.

Jesus and the Jubilee by Dr. John Bergsma

The director of my Christian proofreaders and editors network recently asked, "What is the best book you read this summer?" I answered, Jesus and the Jubilee: The Biblical Roots of the Year of God’s Favor by John Bergsma.

This book has been on my mind since reading it. As I mentioned above, it feels like God is revealing truth to the world in a big way right now. Has this year felt extraordinary to you? Coincidentally, 2025 is a jubilee year. What does that mean?

In Jesus and the Jubilee, John Bergsma simplifies his doctoral research on the biblical year of God’s favor in a fresh, concise summary of the Bible, its meaning, and how we can experience the joy of jubilee.

What is the best book you've read this year?

Has 2025 been extraordinary for you in some way?

Reply and let me know or submit a question. I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks for reading. I'm here for you and your passion projects. Let me know if I can help with anything. I appreciate your referrals (editing, formatting, publishing).

Microsoft Word Tips

Hello, friend. It's hard to believe Mother's Day is this weekend, graduations are about to go down, and summer is around the corner. What are you looking forward to? We plan to host family from South Carolina over Memorial Day weekend and then go to the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter with them. It will be my boys' first time at both, so I'm looking forward to that. Have you been to either attraction? If so, reply and give me all the tips! Regarding tips, do you use Microsoft Word? I...
